EMS Rules and Regulations Undergo Revision

The Virginia EMS Rules and Regulations, last revised in 1990, are undergoing a major overhaul. The official notice of intent to revise the regulations was published in the Virginia Register on January 15. This kicked off a process involving at least three drafts of the proposed regulations, public comment, public forums, final EMS Advisory Board adoption, a public hearing and anticipated Board of Health adoption of the regulation in November.

Sometime during the summer or fall an official "public hearing" is anticipated in the Richmond area. Final consideration and approval of the revised Rules and Regulations would then be expected in early November during a Board of Health meeting. If approved, the new EMS regulations will go into effect January 1, 2002.
