Palmer Elected Chair of Virginia EMS Advisory Board

David B. Palmer, Assistant Chief for the City of Norfolk Fire-Rescue and Tidewater EMS Council board member, was elected chairman of the Virginia EMS Advisory Board on September 17, 2002. Palmer represents the Virginia Association of Governmental EMS Administrators on the advisory board and was appointed by past Governor Jim Gilmore in 2000.  Donald R. Barklage, Jr. of Fairfax was elected Vice Chairman.

TEMS board president Stewart W. Martin, MD, representing the Medical Society of Virginia, was reappointed by Governor Mark Warner to the EMS Advisory Board for a three year term along with Genemarie W. McGee, representing the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association. Local pediatric emergency medicine physician Theresa Guins, MD was appointed to represent the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition to David Palmer, other local members of the state EMS Advisory Board continuing to serve unexpired terms are Scott R. Chandler, representing the Associated Public Safety Communication Officials and Kent J. Weber, representing the Tidewater EMS Council.

Various state EMS committee chairs were also elected on September 17. Local members elected to committee chair positions were Scott Chandler, Communications Committee; Theresa Guins, MD, EMS for Children Committee; Kent Weber, Evaluation Committee; David Palmer, Human Resources and Training Committee; Genemarie McGee, Medevac Committee; and Stewart Martin, MD, Medical Direction Committee.
