Beach ALS Celebrates 30 Years

On August 11, 1973, the Virginia Beach Emergency Coronary Care Program launched the first advanced life support program in Virginia, and the 32nd and only all-volunteer program in the United States. On August 10, 2003, the service celebrated its thirtieth anniversary with over 500 guests, members and past members.

Guest speakers for the anniversary program included Mayor Meyera E. Oberndorf, nationally known EMS attorney and founder of the Journal of Emergency Medical Services, James O. Page, ECC program "founding father" W. Andrew Dickinson, MD, and city EMS director Bruce W. Edwards.

The program was held at the Virginia Marine Science Museum.
