Virginia's Pre-Hospital Data Collection Initiative
Each EMS agency operating in Virginia must comply with the legislative mandate set forth in section 32.a-116.1 of the Code of Virginia. This code requires an EMS agency to submit data on every incident assigned to that agency. This data will be collected by the Virginia Department of Health, and once compiled will be available to EMS agencies. The information assembled from these records is extremely important to EMS providers and local, regional and statewide agencies in generating support for emergency medical services. Implementation of this data collection program will allow for the Department of Health and the Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) to better analyze EMS related issues, and more directly target programs needed by EMS providers and agencies across the Commonwealth.
Mandatory reporting began July, 2000.
EMS agencies should have received pre-ordered PPCR forms and a user manual. PPDR (bubble) forms have not yet been shipped. Requests for additional forms can be submitted to the state Office of EMS on the request form located in the back of the user manual. To check the status of forms ordered but not received, call Dennis Molner at the state Office of EMS, 1-800-523-6019.
