James M. Chandler Designated Certified Association Executive (CAE)

 

Washington, DC (January 20, 2005) – The American Society of Association Executives announced that James M. Chandler, executive director of the Tidewater Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc. in Norfolk has earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential.  Less than five percent of all association professionals have achieved this distinction.

 

The CAE credential is widely recognized as an indication of demonstrated skill in leadership, activity in community affairs and expertise in association management.

 

To earn the CAE credential, an applicant must obtain a minimum number of years in nonprofit management, complete at least 75 hours of specialized professional development, pass a stringent examination in association management which tests fundamental knowledge of all areas of the association management profession, and pledge to uphold a code of ethics. Approximately 3,000 association professionals hold the CAE credential.

Chandler has served as executive director of the Tidewater Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc. since 1986. He was previously training coordinator and emergency medical services planner. He is a native of Onancock, Virginia, attended Broadwater Academy and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1978. He currently resides in Norfolk with a wife and two daughters.
