Michael F. "Mike" McMahon, Jr. joined the Tidewater EMS Council staff on December 8, 2017 as the Performance Improvement and Education Coordinator. Mike is a National Registry Paramedic and Virginia Education Coordinator, and holds a Master's degree in Public Health from the Eastern Virginia Medical School and a Bachelor's of Science degree in biology from Virginia Tech. Mike's EMS background includes volunteer and career EMS, lifeguard service and EMS instruction along with various other fire, hazmat, ICS and medical certifications.
The Performance Improvement (PI) and Education Coordinator position emphasizes performance improvement activities and support. Mike will assist our regional EMS PI Committee and its subcommittees with planning, data retrieval and analysis, and the development of PI projects and education. He will also supervise the regional ALS provider sanctioning process, the consolidated test site program, the continuing education and auxiliary course funding program and will serve as a general EMS education resource for instructors and, after a period of transition, will staff the EMS Education and Training Committee. In addition to PI and education initiatives, Mike will staff the Operational Medical Directors Committee and will oversee revision of regional EMS protocols.
Mike succeeds Jay Porter in this staff position. Jay continues with the Council in a new part-time EMS Field Coordinator postion serving Western Tidewater beginning January 1, 2018. Contact information for Jay remains the same.
